Completely New Idea

So here is a completely new idea: "Confessions of a bathroom wall"

Confessions of a bathroom wall would be an ongoing art project which would be successful with participation from others. The project would be some sort of forum where people can submit a confession, secret, experience, story. etc. in a visually unique way. (i.e. everyone has unique handwriting, it doesn't have to be fancy) This would most likely be on a web site which would post to an interface that looks like a bathroom wall. The product would a collective forum for people to share their thoughts.

Parti 1.1

This is an updated parti. I added "exits" to the image going off in multiple directions. I also added the logo i created to the piece as a type of signature.

FavIcon

Fav Icon is the same as my logo, only smaller....

Logo

This is a logo for my capstone project. I developed this idea stemming from a couple of different thoughts. First, the idea of a kaleidoscope from the by other means assignment has been sticking in my mind. This represents the very simplest of kaleidoscope patterns. Secondly, this happens to be a combination of two infinity symbols reprsenting the infinite possibilities that could occur in one's life, which is parallel to the theme of my project. The center of the image branches off into "infinite possibilities" however they break so it is not a complete loop.

By other means:

Concept:

To represent one's life, the choices they make and how it affects their life. To illustrate how confusing life is and not knowing where one is going; the endless possibilities in one's life.

Representing by other means:

This is my original concept that I wanted to portray through a video installation. Having to represent this idea through other means got me thinking of a lot of ideas. One thing that came to mind was a kaleidoscope. A kaleidoscope gives a viewer an amazing array of patterns and visual interest by a very simple means of colored paper and a few small mirrors (a kaleidoscope in its simplest form). The patterns a kaleidoscope creates is constantly changing and very unique. If I were to use images of myself, places I've been, people I know, etc. to create my own kaleidoscope, I would successfully represent my idea in a personal way.

Online Kaleidoscope Painter

This site allows the user to create their own patterns of a kaleidoscope with a simple paint application. The patterns created parallel the idea of someone moving through life and having different choices, different paths to follow.

Interactive Projections

The KHRONOS PROJECTOR is a new way interacting with pre recorded video. It is an interactive art installation where the viewer can manipulate the video by way of touch screen technologies. The viewer can move back and forth in time; by touching the screen, the image can move forward or backward.

This is definately a very interesting method of manipulating time through video and interaction. It turns the viewer into the participant as well creating a unique interactive installation.

Rendering #2

This is another rendering, which I really like the idea. One wall will be curved with cracked mirror pieces on it. Metaphorically speaking, this side will represent confusion and obstacles in one's life, while the other wall is a solid flat wall with a mirror on it. This will represent the straightforward life, perhaps planned out and boring.

There will be two projectors on top of each wall, so that you will see the video through the mirror on the wall which it is projecting.

Bruce Nauman

The video corridor installation by Bruce Nauman is very much along the lines of what I want to create. In this piece, the viewer/participant walks down a narrow hallway to two a video screen. On the screen you see yourself from a camera that is positioned at the entrance above the door. As you walk down the hallway you get closer to the screen but further from the camera. You also are seeing yourself from behind which causes the viewer irritation.

The idea of involving the viewer in a video installation is exactly what I want to do. I want to provoke some emotion from the viewer as they are "trapped" inside the piece.

In Nauman's piece, the viewer who is being monitored also is monitoring their own activities. The viewer becomes a participant in the piece, which is what I want to do.

Installation/projection

This installation called CONEplex, is a series of 6 massive cones with video projections inside of different citites. The installation is part of Kunsthaus museum in Zurich and was created by ReD (Research and Design). This is certainly a new innovative way to not only project video but display art. It challenges and explores new methods of exhibiting work.
